Wayne Carmon Newman

May 29, 1939 - January 9, 2025

Wayne Carmon Newman, known to all he loved as Blackie – world traveler, and master of the perfect golf swing, has teed off to the great beyond at the age of 85 on January 9, 2025. Blackie spent a lifetime proving that age is just a number.

At just 17 years old, Blackie joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving his country for 25 years while traveling the world and with his family. For 64 incredible years, Blackie shared the dance floor with his beloved wife, Peggy.

Blackie was a proud and loving father to Dwayne, Laurie (husband Gary), and Linda, and the cherished grandfather of Wayne (wife Dallas), Shona (husband Mike), Brittany (husband Cory), Stephanie (husband John), Cortnee, Jayden (wife Alexa), Ashynne (husband Andrew), Dilan, Kirah, and Asha. He reveled in his role as great-grandfather, adored by Rylee, Maya, Kai, Lane, Knox, Van, Cohen, Cayne, Ayden, Ole, Andi Mae, Rago, and Ephie—each of whom will undoubtedly inherit his knack for storytelling and his impeccable sense of humor.

Blackie’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unquenchable zest for life. He believed in making every moment count, socializing, playing sports, telling stories of his life, or travelling.

He leaves behind a family who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts and a reminder to us all: life is meant to be lived fully, danced through passionately, and perhaps, played out with a little slice of golf heaven.

Blackie/Dad/Grandpa/Great Grandpa/Friend, you have left a mark on everyone who knew you. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, hit a hole-in-one or dance like nobody’s watching—Blackie would have loved that.

Join us in celebrating the extraordinary life of Wayne “Blackie” Newman on Saturday, January 25, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London.

Let’s share stories, laughter, and memories in honor of a life well-lived.

Dear Peggy and Family - I am so sorry for your loss of a dear husband, terrific father, doting grandpapa and loving great grandpapa. Blackie was all of those things and more and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Blackie had a full life, as evidenced by everyone he has left behind with broken, aching hearts. I hope knowing that Blackie led a life well-loved and well-lived, with many happy memories remaining, will help soften the edges of your grief. I wish you peace and strength for the difficult days ahead. With love, Joan

My condolences to Peggy and their family. I cannot make it on the 25th but wanted to say how much I enjoyed playing ball with Wayne and against him. His humour and his drive were infectious and win or lose, he was still the same.
