Ronald Toivonen
December 4, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Toivonen on Monday, December 4, 2023, peacefully at Henley Place, in his 88th year.
Cherished husband of Trudy for 61 years. Loving father of Christine Stevens (Joe), Maureen McCabe (Brian), Eric Toivonen (Sandra), Michael Toivonen (Sue). Proud Paapa to Austin, Kaylee, Aliena, Derek, Caitlin, Kennedy, Michael, Alyssa, Steven, Matthew, Ben, Brittany, Jenna, Riley, and Carly. Loved by his brother Ralph, sisters Carol and Lorna(deceased), and large extended family.
Ron was born in Sudbury in 1936, he grew up working on the family farm, his father’s service centre, then onto various lumber yards, eventually becoming a licensed carpenter.
Ron and Trudy were married in Sudbury in 1962. When it was time for their eldest daughter to go to school they were faced with a choice. Either send their daughter off to board at a school for the deaf or find a home closer to a school. This was no choice at all. They moved to London in 1966, allowing their daughter to get the best education while living at home. Once in London, Ron returned to work as a building supply salesman for a Lumber Company. After 10 years of building relationships and knowledge, Ron took a leap. With the support of Trudy, he purchased North Pole Trim and Supplies in 1979. From a small business, North Pole Trim has grown to become a thriving company recognized throughout the industry. His sons, Eric and Michael now run the company, keeping to Ron’s core business philosophies.
Dad always enjoyed golfing, watching sports, cross country skiing, family vacations, and time with family and friends. Ron was very proud of his Finnish heritage and has passed that down to his family. At Ron’s core he had “Sisu”, translated from Finnish it means having great perseverance and strength.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend, the funeral service will be livestreamed.

A donation has been made to alzheimers and MS. Message from the donator: Dear Trudy: We were happy to be able to join your family on our computer this morning. They all were great with their talks about their Dad/Pappa. I know you are very proud of all of them, and so you should be. We would have preferred to be there in person, we were planning to drive down yesterday until we heard there was covid around again. With Eric's recent surgery, we didn't feel safe to take a chance of contacting the virus again. We were quite sick with it in the summer. When he is all healed and fully recovered we will come down for a good visit and play cards with you. God Bless Ron, he is in a much better place now. Love and Prayers, Greta and Eric.
