Robert “Alan” Nichol

November 3, 2024

Early in the morning of November 3, 2024, Alan Nichol in his 72nd year quietly passed from this world with his family at his side.

Al, as he was known by many, grew up in Thorndale and was predeceased by his father Lloyd, mother Kay, and brother Gary.

Alan will be forever missed by his brother Jack and sister-in-law Shanti.  Also, most important to him are stepdaughter Chantel Nightingale and most especially his step-grandson Josh Nightingale.  He is lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Al also cared about his many staunch friends from the AA program where his quiet demeanor, thoughtfulness, understanding and kindness was appreciated.

He was an avid sportsman, trivia whiz, writer, voracious reader and quiet activist.

Alan had faced so many health obstacles in his life as a 25-year liver transplant survivor, tonsil cancer, two separate heart attacks with a total of 5 stents, and for the last 12 months, he had to take his food and medicine through a G-tube.  Yet through all this, his mantra was, “It is what it is.”

His funeral will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Ave. North, London, with visitation one hour prior.

Alan donated to many charities each year and however you choose to remember him will be appreciated.

I knew Al from high school and during the short time that I lived in the village of Thorndale. He was a good friend and I regret that time, distance and the busyness of life meant that I didn't see him very often over the years. The last time he was at our home was when he was visiting Guelph, he told me he had given his life to the Lord, so I hope to see him in heaven. My condolences to Jack and his family, his step children and all who knew and loved him.

Having known Al for almost 20 years my journey through life was enhanced by our friendship. Al was a humble man who most of the time was content to stay in the background. He was a kind, compassionate and other centered man. He helped more people then he ever realized. Rest in Peace my Dear Friend ❤️ 🙏
