Dear sister to Wim van Bommel (1993), wife Truus (1999), John van Bommel (2011), wife Annie, Louie van Bommel (1993), wife Annie, Toon van Bommel (2023), wife Toos (2020), Karel van Bommel (2017), wife Jaantje, Frank van Bommel (2001), Maria Boogaart (2017), husband John, Joe van Bommel (2024), wife Joey (2022), Martin van Bommel wife Antonia, Wilma Goertz, husband Joe (2009), Anthony van Bommel (1929), Pieter van Bommel (1942). She is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Paula was born and raised in Milheeze, Netherlands and moved to Canada in the 1960s where she met the love of her life, Ted. Her passions were family, cooking, gardening and crafts. She loved family fiercely and made it a point to keep in contact with everyone. Any Sunday night could find 15 to 20 people for dinner. She made the BEST mashed potatoes and meatball soup. Playing cards was a staple in the Koolen household, if you didn’t know how to play, no problem, you’d be an expert by the end of the night. Unfortunately, dementia crept into her life over the past couple of years, so donations to the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners are appreciated.

Visitation will be held at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Parish, 511 Cheapside Street, London on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with the interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London.

I was so sorry to read about Paula’s passing. Paula and Ted were neighbours for several years. I remember many summer evenings sitting on the front porch watching the world pass by, enjoying her marvellous rice pudding, and reaping the benefits of the fabulous backyard garden. She will definitely be missed by you all.
