Mary Lawson

November 12, 2024

Peacefully after a brief illness, with family by her side, Mary Lawson passed away on November 12, 2024 at University Hospital, London in her 87th year. Dear mother of Liz (Dave) Wade. Loved by her granddaughters Lindsay and Rachel (Jake) Wade. Great-grandmother to Jackson.

Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend Peter (1997) and her siblings Sally Mott, Grant Askew, Stan Askew, brothers-in-law Del Sweet and Steve Foster. Survived by siblings Henry (Nancy) Askew, Barb Sweet, sisters-in-law Lynn Foster, Barb Askew, Angie Askew and brother-in-law Jim Mott. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Mary’s belief in Christ lead her to attend Bishop Cronyn Memorial Church, Metropolitan United Church and North Park Community Church over her lifetime. She was involved with many groups within these churches and most recently with her senior’s group and life group which she adored. Her life also included teaching elementary school, teaching piano and vocal lessons, both privately and through the Western Conservatory of Music. She loved singing in her many church choirs along with the Earle Terry Singers and Pro Musica. A woman with an angel’s voice is now singing with the angels and her beloved husband Peter in Heaven. We take strength and comfort knowing she had great faith that she would be in the hands of the Lord and is reunited with many loved ones.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and doctors at University Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion over the last week.

A memorial service will be held at North Park Community Church, 1510 Fanshawe Park Road East, London on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with a time of fellowship to follow, also at the church.

A livestream of the service is available at the following link for those unable to attend in person:

To Liz and Family – Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your Mom. I’m so sorry. She was a beautiful person in every way, and a very dear friend. For many, many years we sang together in the Earle Terry Singers and also the London Pro Musica. Your parents, Bill and I often socialized together – so much fun! Do know my caring thoughts are with you. Peace . . . Norma (Dunn) Clare

Liz, I am so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Take solace in all the wonderful memories you hold dear. Take care my friend.

We were Mary's "backyard" neighbours for 40 years and want to express our deepest sympathy for your loss. Mary was such a delightful person. She was always happy and encouraging and always had a twinkle in her eye. Laughter came easily to her. With her and Peter's permission, we put a gate between our backyards so our kids could take a shortcut to Lucas High School. It is still there. And of course, our Airedale terrier, Murphy, would often show up on her front porch and she would call us to come and get him. Only putting a fence around our yard stopped that from happening. She was so gracious about it. And that is a word that describes Mary perfectly. Mary's love for the Lord was evident and her deep faith made her an example to us all. We rejoice with you in her "going home" to be with her Saviour and to be reunited with Peter. But we grieve with you as we can only imagine how much you will miss her sweet presence in your lives.

Dear Liz and family, Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Your Mom was a very special person, loved by our whole family. I enjoyed when I would come home and go to church with my Mom (Maureen) then all of the gang would go out for lunch, such good memories of Mary, I think she enjoyed King's Buffet just as much as I did. Take care of each other, Debbie

Aunt Mary will always hold a special place in my heart. I will always remember enjoying the best holiday appetizers and dinners at her table. I will never forget “junk food” Christmas and turkey on the manifold on route to Gramma Lawson’s house. So many special holiday traditions celebrated at her house. Her love and kindness will always be remembered.

~ Marsha Foster

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time as you mourn but celebrate the life of this beautiful soul. I sang with Mary and Peter at Metropolitan UC, sitting beside her for many years. She taught me as an adult voice student and I continue to remember and use all the lessons she shared with me. She will be truly missed here on earth but heaven has gained another beautiful, singing angel!
