August 26, 1953 – November 28, 2020
On November 28, 2020 at her home, on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, our beloved Kathy/Kate Hall-Merenda passed away following a very brief illness. Kathy was born in Brantford, Ontario and shortly after her family moved to London. Kathy remains to be the ray of sunshine and love to her husband of 34 years, Vito Merenda; devoted daughter to her mother, Wynn Hall; sister to Jon Hall and wife, Darill and family. After graduating from UWO, she moved to Ottawa where she held many positions as a civil servant. It was in Ottawa that Kathy met her husband Vito, later moving back to London to be closer to her mother. Kathy always led an active lifestyle. She will be missed by her cousins, Margaret Allen and Ian Grey, as well as the many friends that she made over the years across Canada, USA, and Belgium. Kathy will be sorely missed by her friend Val Spencer. Kathy (Kate) will never be forgotten by her BF/ “sister of the heart”, Esther Graham, for 51 years and her family. Many thanks to Dr. Hamilton and the palliative care nurses from Saint Elizabeth Health Care. Cremation has taken place and a private family service was held at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London. Vito, I’m so sorry for your loss. Kate was a such a gift. I cannot imagine how much miss her. She leaves such an enormous gap where there once was a kind, brilliant and loving part of the life of all who knew her. I will miss her more than I can ever say. Susan Cassan
First class smile, happy and warming. I loved and admired her so deeply. I am ICC coach in Madrid, Spain, Kate inspired me in so many ways. Love and respect to you all. Susi
Dear Vito, Mrs. Hall, Jon, and family as well as Esther, (heart-sister) and Val (Kate spoke of you often), I met Kathy in 1978. We shared an office while doing our Master's in History at Western. She was studying Newfoundland and came with me when I got married there. We remained close friends for many years, often walking to Hog's Back Falls here in Ottawa, sharing frustrations and joys. I was so delighted when she met and married VIto: they were meant for each other. Vito became Kathy's rock in life. Kate (as she became known) had enormous determination and discipline, but very little patience for bureaucracy. Her last career as a life coach brought her much joy and gave her scope for her energy, kindness, and intelligence. While Kate died far too young and far too suddenly, she also lived life to the fullest and gave her all. I am so very sorry for your loss. I will remember Kate always with love and affection.
If you knew kindness, generosity, laughter, a smile that made you feel welcome and the best hugs then you knew Kate. Vito I share in your sorrow, she will not be forgotten.
My deepest condolences to you all. May she Rest In Peace.
Kathy and I met at the downtown YWCA when we were very young. For 4 years we swam, learned gymnastics and how to be friends. Kathy and I once figured out that we had known each other for 50-plus years, in-person and as pen pals. I heard many beautiful stories of all the important friends in her life. Kate was always a caring and loving friend to me and to Esther who was actually the only other friend I met in person. It hurts to know that we have all lost such a good friend but we keep in our hearts all the wonderful memories of this strong and loving woman. Vito, you have been the rock that Kate loved. Bless you for the time you had with her. Esther, thank you for caring for Kate and contacting me. Kate's spirit will always be around us all.
To a beautiful woman who was always kind, humble and full of wisdom. May you rest in Peace and in the palm of God's Hands.

After many years, I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Kathy Hall. I loved her strong and independent views on life and I am envious of Vito. Of all the women that I have known, Kathy was the one that I could have done truly great things with but I simply lacked the wisdom to see this in my younger years. Rest in peace Kathy, condolences to your family and Val.
