Cornelius “Cor” Antonius Vlasman

January 13, 2025

Passed peacefully with his beloved wife Josie by his side at University Hospital, London, Ontario, on Monday, January 13th, 2025, in his 97th year.

Cor was born in the Netherlands on July 20, 1928, as one of ten children. At the age of 19, he immigrated to Canada on his own and settled in Alberta, where he worked as a farmhand and handyman. He then travelled to the London area to join his family. Known for his strong work ethic, Cor held a variety of jobs throughout his career, including hospital porter, custodian, mechanic at McManus Motors, partner in an automotive shop, mechanic for the army, and later retiring as a mechanic at Ellis-Don Construction Ltd. His passion for all things mechanical was evident from an early age, and it guided him throughout his career

In 1965, Cor married his sweetheart Josie, who was his companion for 59 years. Together, they raised three children in London, Ontario. As a caring father, Cor created a warm, loving home filled with support, guidance, and affection to his family.

Always ready to lend a hand, Cor earned the reputation of being known as the go-to person in the neighbourhood, known for his ability to fix everything from can openers to cars. His dry, witty sense of humour brought light to difficult situations, and his generosity was a constant source of comfort to those around him.

One of Cor’s greatest joys was watching his five grandchildren grow up. He was always there with a smile, a hug, and ready to share his many stories.

Even in retirement, Cor was never one to rest for long, always busy tackling tasks and helping others whenever needed. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Cor leaves behind his loving children Teresa, Ron (Tracy), and Dan (Carla), and his cherished grandchildren Amanda, Kaitlyn, Haylee, Sarah, and Dalton. He will also be missed by his dear sisters Theresa (Late Henk), Mary and by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Predeceased by his siblings: Martin (Late Henny), Theo (Late Tiny), Tony (Late Hilda), Lida (Late Joe), John (Late Anna), Harry, and Joe (Alida).

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Northview Funeral Chapel and Cremation Centre, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior.

Interment will take place at a later date in St. Peter’s Cemetery, London.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Cor are asked to consider Thames Valley Children’s Centre, London or Diabetes Canada.

To honour Cor, enjoy a good cup of coffee with friends and loved ones!

My heartfelt condolences to Josie (Mrs. Vlasman), Ron, Dan, Teresa and families. So many great memories of conversations and laughs that I shared with Cor. A talented mechanic, he was always there in our time of need to repair everything from a small power tool to a large tractor. The patriarch of a beautiful family. Rest in peace Cor. Steve Santin.
