In Loving Memory of Brian Gilbert Riviere

September 17, 1964 – October 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Brian Gilbert Riviere on October 4, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Jeanne; his two adoring children, Zachary and Nate; his loving mother, Celine; cherished brother Ray (Jane); sisters Lorraine (Rob) and Caroline (Mark); in-laws Carol and Dan Carroll; and his supportive brothers and sisters-in-law. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews.  Brian is predeceased by his father, Gilbert (year) and daughter, Samantha.

Brian grew up on a tobacco farm in Langton, Ontario, where he learned the value of hard work. He carried these lessons throughout his life as a dedicated software developer. His passion for his career was evident; after work hours, he could often be found enhancing his skills through online courses or tackling coding challenges.

A true embodiment of determination, Brian embraced challenges head-on. When his younger son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, he joined the cross Canada cycling relay fundraiser and cycled from Toronto to the Manitoba border.  In his 40s, he immersed himself in triathlons and, in his 50s, took up Jujitsu with his son Zachary, earning the Steve Turnbull Memorial Award his first year. Brian was given the recognition for his dedication, hard work, and his great example to much younger members of the gym.  He was tireless, never complained, always forging ahead.

Brian treasured his lifelong friendship with Joe Demaiter, whom he met at age 5.  Jeanne loved listening as he recounted the many ‘great adventures’ they had over the years.  He loved playing golf and treasured his buddies and their golf trips together over the years.

To many, Brian will be remembered as a hardworking, honest, and loyal friend and colleague. To his family, he was a kind, good-natured husband, father, brother and son who gave unconditional love and support.

Rest in peace, my love.

The memorial service will be conducted at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, followed by a short reception starting at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider a donation to St. Joseph’s Hospice of London or to Brain Cancer Canada.

And please, hug your loved ones a little tighter.
