Frederic “Guy” Harrington

May 5, 2024

Frederic “Guy” Harrington passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on May 5, 2024, at 76.

A loving and devoted husband of 53 years to Cheryl (Locke), a supportive and always fun dad to his three children Kim, Jenny (Colin Cook), and Chris (Sue). Cherished Papa to Kayla (Tyler Caron), as well as an adoring Great Papa to Avary and Emily.

Guy was born in London Ontario to Frederic and Mary (Rowntree) Harrington (predeceased), the third of four children, Gloria (Al Watson predeceased), Helen (Bud Drew predeceased), and Paul. His siblings often talk about how happy and active Guy was, always picking up and playing any sport he could and always trying his best to make people smile and laugh. A story that was often told, was the bond Guy and Paul had from a very young age, they even had their own language that only their mother Mary could decipher.

Guy’s love for sports continued throughout his whole life, playing in local leagues well into his 60’s. Guy would often share stories of skipping school to go play hockey, or of the crazy tournaments him and his teammates would travel to. Guy was a lover of all sports but his favourites would have to be Hockey, Soccer and Baseball. Guy encouraged the passion and hard work of sport in his children and grandchild by coaching teams and attending all of their games. Guy, like many in this area, was a long devoted – and suffering – fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

One of Guy’s earliest jobs was as an usher in a local movie theatre, which he would speak often of. This is where his love of movies really grew. Guy was particularly a fan of science fiction, and he passed on this love of movies to his children.

For most of his working life Guy was an employee at Labatt Breweries, making memories and friendships. When Guy’s kids would run into someone who worked at Labatt’s 9 times out of 10 that person would know exactly who Guy was and would have a fun story to share.

Guy is loved and will be missed by his very large extended family and friends. Guy would love to tease and joke with people just to get a rise out of certain nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters-in-law, and friends who would all enjoy and laugh about afterwards. This is something we are sure will continue when we meet again.

Guy was a loving family man who was a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to have him in their life.

There will be a private family celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to KidSport-London (https://kidsportcanada.ca/ontario/london/)

It was many years ago that I met Jenn and quickly became an extra kid in their house. Her father would be as quick with a joke as he was to help. I am grateful for the memories and send my deepest condolences to the whole family, especially my inseparable friend (and cousin?), Jenn. May his spirit rest in peace and guide you in dreams.

Guy was always sure to make me smile and laugh. He had an easy way to joke, and that sly smile to go along with it. Thanks for the laughs and good times Guy, you will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.
