John Lionel Charles Main

At the age of 97, John Lionel Charles Main died peacefully at University Hospital, London, on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

With his sense of humour still intact, his last words were “I’ll get back to you on that”. He was the kindest, most compassionate man I knew and I, his son, John William, am grateful to have learned this from him.

John was born March 1^st, 1926. Since March came in like a lion that year, John’s mother gave him his middle name, “Lionel”. John was bright, inventive, curious and lucid till the end. After serving in the Navy in the WWII, John began working at Northern Electric (Nortel) in Montreal. He worked first in production and became an electrician, then an electronic designer and manager in an electronics lab. John retired in 1986. After moving to London, he became active in his community, bowling and golfing until his mid-80’s. He enjoyed many, bus trips and walking (always briskly). In 2021, John was predeceased by his loving wife Edna, after 70 years of marriage.
