John Gordon Spencer Yanchus

October 1, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Yanchus on October 1, 2023, at the age of 52.

John was a loyal husband to his loving wife Tamara and devoted father to his children Tyler and Nicole. Left to grieve are parents Terry and Nelda Yanchus, Bill Meighen and Jane Mettham. Parents-in-law Dana Bielski and Peter Murray. Brother of Jason (Faye) Yanchus and Lee-Anne Pickard (Bryce). Brother-in-law of Tomek Bielski (Anita) and Darek Bielski (Nathalie).  Loving uncle of Alexa, Ethan, Jake, Ashley, Camryn, Nathan, Kayla and Aidan.  Predeceased by his mother Rhonda Meighen. John leaves behind many extended family and friends.

John was the Director of Tax and Estate Planning at Canada Life, where he had a long and successful career. He was always active in sports, participating in and cheering on his children. He loved the outdoors, walking and cycling. John was a long-time active member of the London and District Men’s Dart League. He loved spending the time with his family and friends at home. John’s passing leaves a hole in our lives that will be impossible to fill and so many wonderful memories that we will cherish forever.

It is with great sadness and profound admiration for John that I leave this message to the Yanchus family. John was a wonderfully special individual who in his professional life was well loved by so many because of his unique ability to wrap joy and genuine care around even the most serious of topics. John's tremendous business acumen and profession expertise were only shadowed by his overwhelming kindness , willingness to help others under all circumstances and his human generosity which made him a rare and wonderful friend. Although John will remain in our hearts as an individual who connected meaningfully and joyously with other humans , I cannot help but believe that he will also remain indelibly etched in our heads as the memory of his smile and love of fun is a visual that cannot help but be greeted with a quiet smile in our mind's eye whenever we think of the amazing man that was.... and is John Yanchus. He will truly be missed

~ Izumi Miki McGruer

As an advisor who would seek special tax and investment planning advice from John, I can attest that he was excellent to work with because he truly cared. He was one of the rare breeds who would return your call or email immediately and try his best to assist you. He always went over and above his role to help me and I will be forever grateful to him. He will be sadly missed.

He was one of the nicest people I ever worked with. I am extremely pained at the tragic news of the loss of a dear friend and colleague John Yanchus CPA, CA, TEP. John was a gentlemen and scholar of his craft. Gracious, and to the core as genuine as they came. John and I spent a lot of time together on the road all over the province. I cannot imagine life, or the financial services industry without him. Johns advice, incredible speaking ability, insightful articles, and warm personality will be missed. No one could better break-down complicated theory into practical common sense than John. He was a dedicated loving husband and father, always committed to his children’s sports activities. He loved his blue Jaguar! He was a great example of keeping in shape with all his outdoors activities. My thoughts and prayers are with Tamara, the children, and rest of the family during this very difficult period. Cherish the time with your family, friends, and work colleagues, because you never know when it will be the last time together. RIP Brother! 🙏🏽 #foreverinourhearts #seeyousoon John 16:22
