In Loving Memory of Lino Mascotto
With profound sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Lino Mascotto on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 93. Lino was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, leaving a legacy of love and devotion.
Lino shared an inspiring 63-year partnership with his late wife Valanne (née Fraser). Their life was a testament to love, laughter, and adventure. Lino’s legacy continues through his five children: Anne-Marie (Claudio), Mark (Pam), Leanne (Joe), Kent (Michelle), and Elysa (Ian).
As a proud father, Lino found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Nicla, Alessandra, Andrea, Hayden, Aleeya, Alexandra, Luke, Samantha, Thomas, Michaela, Samuel, and great-grandfather to Chiara, Sara, Julia, Emma, Theodore, Simone, Naomi, and another blessing soon to arrive.
Lino’s life was a tapestry woven with remarkable adventures, great friendships, and a distinguished career:
Born in 1930 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Lino learned the art of carpentry from his father, a craft he cherished throughout his life.
In 1951, he joined the RCMP and served in Halifax, where he met Valanne. They married in 1956, embarking on a journey together to serve the Inuit community in Canada’s Great North, fostering deep connections and respect for their culture and traditions. His enduring bond with the Arviat community remained strong throughout his years.
A pioneer in embracing early video technology, Lino captured the essence of life in the North during the 1950s.
In Edmonton, Alberta, Lino led a pivotal mission for the Canadian Security Service (CSIS) that earned him special mention from the Director General, for his significant contributions towards one of the most concentrated, long-term, single surveillance operations undertaken by the Security Service at that time.
Relocating to Rome, Italy with his family, he served at the Canadian Embassy, traveling extensively across Europe and the Mediterranean.
Lino retired from the RCMP in 1976 and returned to Sioux Lookout, where he and his family established two successful businesses.
In 1986, the family settled in London, Ontario, where Lino served as a Justice of the Peace.
Retirement in 1995 ushered in a new adventure, as Lino and Valanne explored Canada and the U.S. in their ‘customized’ motorhome, reconnecting with friends made throughout their incredible journey.
A celebration of Lino’s life will be held on September 8, 2023, at Northview Funeral Chapel, located at 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, Ontario. The schedule is as follows:

To Annemarie, Mark, Leanne, Kent & Elysa, & your families, We are so sorry to hear of Lino’s passing. He will be missed by all who knew him. We have fond memories of both Lino & Val from our days when posted together in Rome in the 1970s. Over the years we’ve managed to keep in touch by mail, phone & odd visits. Unfortunately we can’t travel right now as Lou has some medical issues that keep us near our doctors, hospitals but we’ll be there in spirit for his celebration of life. Fond regards to you all, Mary & Lou MacLean
