John Edward Kuiack

August 8, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Kuiack on August 8, 2023, at the age of 62. John passed at home, surrounded by family, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Loving husband and best friend of Lorna, proud father and mentor to Brian (Anne-Marie), Derek (Kyra), Brad (Giuliana), and Emma. Adoring Boppa to Brooks and Josephine.

Pre-deceased by parents, Morley and Mae, and brother, Peter.

He will be sadly missed by brother, David, sister, Janet (Michael), and sister-in-law, Tracy, as well as his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

John will be remembered as a kind and patient man who loved music, cooking, his cottage, and above all else, his family and friends.

Special thanks to University Hospital staff, Dr. Van Dam, Eldho and Deepthi from St. Elizabeth’s, Medical Priorities, and VON e-shift for making John as comfortable as possible.

Family and friends will be welcomed at Northview Funeral Chapel and Cremation Centre, 1490 Highbury Ave. North, in London, Ontario on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. for visitation. Friends and family are also invited to attend the Celebration of John’s Life on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., also at Northview Funeral Chapel. Cremation has taken place.

To the larger than life man John, with the biggest heart ever, you will be missed and your memory within all of us carries on. We knew you for a short time as in-laws but felt we were family from the first time we met. Your stories will live on, and the cottage with the amazing sunsets and stars will be forever in our memories. A great Boppa to Brooks that loved your hugs, games, big red truck and much more. Rest in peace and May Your Memory Be Eternal.

A bigger than life personality - entertaining conversationalist, story teller, entertainer. We will never forget the care & concern shown when Jean had her fall and was in such pain. We always knew help was a short distance across the lake if ever needed. He will be missed and forever remembered.

To Janet and all of the Kuiack family. I was saddened to read about the passing of both John and your mother, Mae. It was many years ago, in Lambeth at M.B. McEchren, that I got to know your family. I remember John as a clever, fun loving young man who was respected by all of his classmates. From what others have written, it appears he didn't change over the years. Hang on to your good memories, as they will comfort you. Take care.

~ Jeanette Pastorius

So sorry Lorna to hear of the loss of John. Treasure your memories. Prayers to Kuiak and Wasko families. Take care.

Dear Lorna & Family, it affects me very much that you have met the same fate as me and that you sadly have also lost your beloved partner far too early. I want to express my deepest compassion. I know exactly how you feel and I know there are really no consoling words for this situation, nothing that really helps. Only family and friends who are by your side now and who are there for you can give you the support you need now. They are all there to lift you up, to share and ease the unbearable pain. I can only wish you what was also wished for me. To have the strength to get through this sad and difficult time. Feel hugged by me.. Your cousin Kay

Dein Cousin Kay

~ Kay Fischer

Always a very strong man, John was truly one of life's gentle giants. In our memories, his images were always graced with a smile and, certainly, no memories of harsh words. At times like this, words do seem meaningful but we send Lorna, the immediate family, the extended family on the Wasko side and to all others who knew and loved John, our deepest, heartfelt sympathy. John is now beyond pain but we know that your love will still reach him. Aleck and Mary Harasym

“The Gift of Music, The Gift of Community”

In a world filled with inequities, El Sistema Aeolian helps fill the gap between children and youth receiving a high quality music education and those not able to access it.

El Sistema Aeolian provides a free, Intensive afterschool music program to about 130 children and youth ages 6 to 19.  Participants play in a full orchestra and sing in a choir.  Warm suppers are provided three days per week and teenagers participate in a Leadership Class.

There are no previous skills necessary to participate and no audition: commitment to attend is the only criteria for participation.  El Sistema Aeolian participants have collaborated with musicians like Buffy Sainte-Marie, Marc Jordan, Canadian Brass, Ty Herdon, Matt Alber, Valdy and so many more.  The program holds the tension between music and social outcomes.  The program has won the prestigious Glen Gould prize, a UNESCO prize and is recognized throughout the world as one of the best programs for youth.
