Fern Edith Hutchison (née Funnell)
July 8, 2023
Passed away peacefully at home with her daughter Lynda by her side on Saturday, July 8, 2023 in her 89th year. Much loved Mom of Terry and wife Terri, Susan and husband Al Procter, Lynda and husband Dale Howe. Special Gramma/Gma to her grandchildren Jenifer, Joshua, Rachel and Brett. Lovingly remembered by her sister Carol Vidal and her niece Michelle and family. She will be missed by her cats Abbey, Stubby and Casey whom she doted on. Predeceased by her husband Neil Hutchison and parents Laura and Daniel Funnell.
Fern worked at Brescia College as an Executive Secretary and retired in 2000. She valued home life, quiet moments, loved her flowers and gardens and enjoyed the companionship of her neighbour Michelle. She loved discussing TV series with Lynda, Dale and the kids. In her younger days she enjoyed her time working at Woolco. She loved camping at Long Point, sewing, canning and baking, best cherry pie ever! She courageously battled many ailments with grace and determination, her quick wit and a smile.
Thank you to the staff of St. Elizabeth, for all those who came to help, always stayed to chat and brighten up her days! Thank you to those family and friends that called or stopped in to see Mom, she appreciated everyone. Mom loved her many cats she had over the years, most were strays that showed up at her doorstep looking for a home.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 29th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brant County SPCA would warm her heart.

Fern was six and a half years old when I came along. We got to enjoy being sisters for 81 years before I received that upsetting call July 8th. I will certainly miss sharing our ups and downs that we experienced throughout our lives. I wasn't always considered as her darling sister though. Because of our age difference, I became a real pain when the boyfriends starting coming around. I was such a nuisance that her friend Ron Gaskell threw me over the fence on Hamilton Road when I kept following and talking to them. We made it through that phase of our lives, and I will miss her so much. I am truly grateful to have so many wonderful memories of events that we shared over the years. You were such a caring sister. I will miss you! Love Carol
Lynda, so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Condolences to you and all your family at this sad time. Mothers are always the backbone of a family and she will be missed by all of you.
